6 Health Benefits of Pumpkins

 

It’s fall and everything pumpkin spice. If you are like me you probably have a couple pumpkins at home that you are using for décor right now. Did you know pumpkins in fact have a lot of health benefits – other than looking really nice at your door step. So before you throw them out take a look and see what you can benefit from!

They are high in antioxidant content

    • Pumpkins contain antioxidants, such as alpha-carotene, beta-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin. These antioxidants can help neutralize free radicals, stopping them from damaging your cells. They are cell protectors! Antioxidants also help boost your immune system.

They are very nutritious and high in Vitamin A

    • Pumpkins are high in beta-carotene which our body can turn into Vitamin A. Vitamin A is important normal vision, the immune system, and reproduction. Pumpkin seeds are a great source of Vitamin A.

They are low in calories but high in Vitamin Density

    • Pumpkins are a weight-loss friendly food because you can consume more of it than other carbohydrate sources but still take in fewer calories¹.

They are a great source of fibre

    • Fibre helps with your digestion by feeding the good gut bacteria. Fibre also helps to keep you feeling more full curbing your appetite and in turn may help with weight loss.

They are versatile and easy to add into your diet

    • Pumpkin can be used to make lots of things like pumpkin pie, pumpkin roast with other root vegetables, pumpkin soup, pumpkin beverage or just a snack with roasted pumpkin seeds. The possibilities are endless!

They are great for your skin

    • Pumpkins have a great source of Vitamin C which not only helps boost your immune system but also helps to produce collagen to keep your skin and bones strong.
