A few weeks ago we talked about a baby’s development in the first trimester. Now we will go over the second and third trimester. Your little bundle(s) of joy is almost here.

2 | 14 | Kidneys are producing urine and releasing it into the amniotic fluid, baby is starting to make facial expressions |
16 | Baby’s sex may be detectable (usually within 16-20 weeks) | |
18 | Can feel baby move | |
19 | Baby can hear your heartbeat and sounds from outside of your body (e.g. partner’s voice), wrinkly skin with a waxy coating, baby is now ~6 inches long from head to bottom | |
23 | Baby’s sense of movement developed, sense of hearing continues to improve, can see baby squirming under belly | |
24 | Taste buds are developing, the brain is growing rapidly, hair is beginning to grow, the baby is now about 1 foot long | |
27 | Lungs are developing for the big day but are not functions right now | |
3 | 28 | Eyelashes and eyesight are improving, neurons are developing in the brain, the baby is now ~ 15 inches long from head to heel |
32 | Baby is now growing cute little fingers and toenails, the baby is now ~17 inches long | |
34 | Baby’s lungs and Central Nervous System continues to develop, skin is soft and smooth, the baby is rounder and is ~18 inches long | |
37 | “Early term” – babies born at this time to well. But the baby stays in longer to let the brain and lungs have more time to fully mature | |
39 | Full term baby- ready to go! The baby is now ~20 inches long and the average weight is 7 ½ lbs | |
41 | “Late term” – passed the due date –inducing labour in next week or two |
