Chiropractic care for Kids – Pediatric Chiropractic

One of the most common questions I get asked is, “Dr.Manny do you adjust your kids?” And the answer is- of course! Both my kids have been getting adjusted since they were a week old! My oldest one had constipation issues. My younger one had limited neck mobility to one side. Both my kids had Colic.

Do Chiropractors Treat Children?

Yes! Chiropractors treat children from infants through adolescents. There are some important differences between adult and pediatric chiropractic care but the basic goals are the same: keep the body and nerves aligned for optimum health and development.

Chiropractors treat kids differently compared to adults. Children’s bodies are smaller and the joints are not yet fully formed and therefore, a gentler approach is required.  When treating children a greater emphasis is put on increasing flexibility and blood flow and seeing where there might be muscle imbalances starting.

What Is the Right Age for Kids to Receive Chiropractic Care?

Studies and evidence suggest that kids of ANY age may benefit from chiropractic treatments.

While all ages can benefit from visiting a chiropractor, the specific issues that can be addressed depends on the age of the child  and what you as a parent feel is best for your child.

Some symptoms that may indicate your child could benefit from chiropractic care are;

  • Infants: Colic, sleep problems and constipation
  • Toddlers: Earaches, slow growth, developmental delays, and behavior problems
  • Elementary Aged Children: Asymmetrical muscle development, slow growth, developmental delays, behavior problems, headaches, and hyperactivity
  • Teens: Asymmetrical growth, extreme growing pains, headaches, back pain, neck pain and sports-related injuries

What Are the Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Kids?

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Improving or correcting problems with posture
  • Promoting and maintaining optimum nervous system function
  • Improving the quality and duration of sleep
  • Improved concentration
  • Increased ability to relax fully
  • Reduction of tension due to stress
  • Increased flexibility and strength of all joints (specifically the spine and neck)
  • Better performance in sports

Do Chiropractic Adjustments Hurt Kids?

While the popping sounds and adjustment may seem scary at first, once your child realizes there is no pain associated with it they can relax. A lot of my Pediatric patients seem to like the atmosphere and the sensations of the treatment once they have had their initial visit. They like coming to the Chiropractor they think its fun!
